A Truer Word

A friend sent me a link to an Internet site today that she had found stimulating & so I went forth & linked also.

I got part of the way through, when my psychopoo 'pull out' alert button began flashing big time. A few months back I learned the (very) hard way, not to ignore this feeling & consequently hastened to the X at the top right hand of my screen & took my leave.

However I have spent the rest of today pondering.

I was at first drawn to the info in this article. For one thing a friend had recommended it. Then there was the intro with someone assuring me that he has looked into it himself & cannot see how it can have been faked. Plus of course I do so much want to understand the answer to life, death & the universe otherwise known as 'what the hell am I doing here?' Some things I read made sense, some made me go oohhh, but somewhere along the way I also went uh-oh, let me out.

I had found myself believing what was said. It was not chirpy or upbeat - the tone was serious, the message harsh. Why is it that when someone gives us bad news that we're so much more likely to believe it? I read the other day that people are often more likely to believe something that is whispered - is this because it too suggests that the info is bad & therefore true?

So I wondered why I was trusting this person. This then led to 'what is trust' & why do we feel drawn to trust people & things? Interestingly it is only a short while ago that I posted this pic in my article on Adrienne Shelly.

My etymology dictionary returns trust to original meanings of "help, confidence, firmness." And for true we have "The underlying etymological meaning of true is faithful, steadfast, firm'; in accordance with the facts is a secondary development...and it has been speculated that it may ultimately have links with the Indo-European base dru- 'wood, tree' (source of English tree), the semantic link being the firmness or steadfastness of oaks & suchlike trees."

Some out loud thinking & questioning with my son after work, followed by a walk in the evening air led to a quick sketch of trust - oops sorry that's a tree.

Our list for trust took shape, & surprisingly it took the shape of living, breathing sentient beings - there was not an idea or thought in sight. For trust we decided, we needed time to get to know someone, to develop a deep connection & also to feel that we were cared for deeply. Trust seems to involve an energetic flow between open hearts - perhaps like an electronic circuit. In this sense there is a feel that 'trust' is a union of two or more people (or animals of course).

So could misplaced trust be an act that needs a bloody great light shone on it? What happens when you open your heart centre to an idea, a concept or a belief? You wouldn't hop into bed with them, & yet perhaps by opening ourselves & creating an energetic circuit with them, we do just that. And just what monsters might be Frankensteinally created by the fertilising of an idea or concept with a heartfelt emotion? Is some kind of life force created when we imbue these concepts with our very own emotional trust?

I've noticed how BIG a word 'trust' is.

Isn't it the basis of all religions?

Could the opening of the human heart to the idea of religion have created the 'monster' religions we have today? Could the opening of the human heart to 'national pride' be behind the creation of nations that must be fed by the sacrifice of it's people? When we 'trust' something that has no heartbeat, do we in essence, breathe life into it.

If you listen again to the word trust you can hear another sound & it looks like this-

Trussed- arranged for cooking by binding close the wings or legs of (a fowl).

Its etymology goes thus: "Middle English to pack, load, bind, from Anglo-French trusser, trousser, from Vulgar Latin *torsare, from *torsus twisted."

Could it be that we twist things out of shape & tie ourselves & our world in knots when we emotionally inseminate words & meanings with our highly charged trust?

stup-IDIOT-y

Some stupid remarks have been on my mind today - I met them both yesterday, one in the finishing pages of a book & one at Celtic Rebels site in Prank Call of the Wild.

I wrote an article at the end of October that stemmed from a book called Catastrophobia that suggested that humanity is suffering from the collective trauma of a cataclysm that all but wiped out earth 11,500 years ago. Something in me responded to this idea. I've gotten a lot more wary of what I read over the years & will put a book down if it doesn't feel quite right. I have to say for the most part I got heaps out of this book & yesterday as I was winding it up I came across this -

"According to the wisdom of the sages, we are completing 11,500 years of a collective degeneration"

A short time later I happened upon the Rebel's latest Charge of the Tripe Brigade

"One thing that I think is can safely say after contemplating the topic, is that we [our generation] may very well be the dumbest, most ignorant lot to ever walk God’s Green Earth." Click on the link for the rest of the Rebel's blitzkrieg

http://celticrebel.wordpress.com/2008/11/09/prank-call-of-the-wild/

So I've been thinking about stupidity today & finding some very comforting & hopefully useful thoughts.

If you are anything like me, you've got a shitload of past programming (from a multitude of sources) that you're endeavouring to release back into the wild - AND, if you're also like me also you may find that the bastards don't want to leave the nest. So what to do with all these monkeys on our backs.

I have tried, really! I've (attempted) to love them. forgive them, write them, draw them, positively out-think them, punch pillows etc, but like the cat in the song, they just come back the very next day.

Thanks to a chat with a friendly blogger I've been drawn to mulling over my 'coping mechanisms' for when things get rough - & I have to say I've not been impressed by what I've found so far. It seems my coping goes something like 'Oh well this is as good as it gets' & further thoughts or attempts to improve situations float off into never ever land.

So here's where I think stupidity can come & lend a very big hand. Personally I really appreciate intelligence, as in 'an enquiring mind that can grasp & play with ideas', I'm definitely not talking of egg-spurts.

No, no don't do it! For in this sign, have they surely conquered

So what would happen if we contemplated our past, our parents, our teachers,

our leaders, our experts, our society & our history as STUPID - whoa don't go getting defensive yet - why not just have a sneaky little play with the idea & no you can't leave your parents out. What if we are enormously stupid & as a race have been for a very long time.

What if the idea that we are advancing is a cover-story, to keep us from noticing that we are now in fact considerably dumber than our parents. Can we really say that technology is a sign of 'intelligence' - I think not - I've looked into WWI during this year - that was the first real test-run for technology - how many of your clan were wiped out in that little dummy-run.

Lets say that you & I are located somewhere near the top of the imbecilic score-card - how could we use that? Well for one thing if we can accept it as a working hypothesis, then we can look at ALL that we have learned in life thus far as a potential load of crap - and isn't it so much easier to leave a load of crap behind than it is to leave something we prize.

If your parents were dumb & dumber then perhaps you can look honestly at all those half-truths you've been carrying around out of loyalty & discretely tip them into the nearest rubbish bin.

I read a lovely book quite some time ago which suggested that children will go through unimaginable pain & twist themselves & their lives into unnatural shapes, simply out of love & loyalty to their parents. From what I have seen in my life, children give a humongous amount of devotion to their parents, we in return love & tend them, but all too often the focus of our adult eyes is towards the parents we loved (or hated) with our own humongous child's emotions. Now if we could look (lovingly or not) at our parents as dumb & dumber are we not freed in some way from having to follow the instructions that were handed down to them from their silly parents.

Angle the lens of stupidity a little wider and we can look with new eyes at our teachers & their teachers, our preachers, our 'health' professionals & all who proclaim expertise in the dazzling array of things that can surely only come about in a world where stupidity runs amok.

I was in the DVD shop earlier this evening, pondering stupidity & I looked at row upon row of 'movies' - are these not perhaps some of our society's most stupid claims to fame - in what intelligent world or dimension would beings abdicate their lives in order to watch other people doing the things they would most love to do.

In what intelligent world or dimension would beings allow themselves to be worked to death for rectangles of paper & plastic.

In what intelligent world or dimension would beings give up their individual sovereignty & allow themselves to be farmed in the same way we (stupidly) farm cattle.

We've been so captivated by the idea that we live in the 'Modern' world, that we haven't stopped to switch on the light inside that could tell us what's been hidden for far too long

A Hindu legend says that the gods hid man's godhead within him, because he would never think to look there him-herself. What if the key to unlocking this godhead is to see clearly & honestly within ourselves (& each other) that we have been well & truly tricked into thinking that we have evolved. I am very fond of Kenneth Branagh's version of Much Ado about Nothing. I have watched it many times & one thing that really surprised me was to find human beings of 400 years ago acting just the same as they do today. So surprised was I, at this, that I looked up the text of the play, feeling sure that Branagh must have 'modernised' the play - but no there was no difference at all - we had not evolved at all in those years.

The crowning glory to this little tale of idiocy was a tale from my son when I got home from work this evening. He is I believe a fairly normal 15 year old boy. Today he & some friends got hauled up to the Dean's office, were then berated & yelled at & received detentions (six for one of the boys) for the hideous crime of prank-drawing -a concerted effort had led to the creation of a penis on the cover of one of their books. In another time they may well have been lauded for drawing a sacred fertility symbol.

My son said he could understand the reactions of the teachers had they been caught committing a crime, but all the boys were at a loss to explain the extraordinary reaction to something so trivial. However if I re-label the scene as an example of stupidity then it makes perfect sense.

I must admit to a fear in my life of stupidity - of doing something 'stupid' or saying something stupid (I should really be over that by now!). As I went looking for images on the Internet I saw how common it is to label other people stupid - as a derogatory remark or as a foil to to someone else's 'cleverness'. It reminds me an awful lot of my previous jaunt into cowardice - where I was led to question just what a strangle-hold 'heroism' had on humanity. Now I see that 'cleverness' or 'intelligence' has been another such soul-crusher.

I think I can now embrace stupidity with relish, as a useful tool for releasing the vice-like grip of scholastic 'intelligence'. Here's how the Celtic Rebel worded it -
“I was ignorant before, I am less ignorant now, and my goal is to be even less ignorant tomorrow.”

Etymology of intellect c.1386, from L. intellectus "discernment, understanding," (note no mention of experts).

Poppycock

Ben from HPANWO has written an article speaking up about War Remembrance ceremonies, if you haven't already seen it - commemoration of blood sacrifice has been going on for far too long

Mo-Men-tus History

Don't ask me why but I got to wondering the other day if Hitler would have had the same impact without his moustache.

If you were drawing a picture of him, & I must admit I don't know why you would, it would be the most significant, dare I say symbolic feature on his face.

I guess this article comes from some personal observation. There is a mustachioed person I know, alright I'll admit it's a man, who at times I find intimidating & I have wondered just how much the effect would be reduced, without the 'mo'.

I feel there may be more to the moustache than meets the eye, especially as I cast my eye back over recent history. The last hundred years or so have seen a dazzling array of be-whiskered head honchos. Picking my may through the Internet I find I am not the only one to notice:

"In my short experience, and short research, one thing has become evident: the 20th century displayed many a dictator sporting a certain kind of facial hair…the moustache! While they vary in types, from a curt and almost square Hitler, to a cheeky and vibrant Saddam, each of the following show style and a distinctive flair with their moustaches, often contributing to their image as an icon."

I have shamelessly appropriated the pic below, from this site so here is a link if you like to browse.
http://drupeau.blogspot.com/2004/10/famous-moustaches-part-1-moustache-of.html

In case you're not familiar with any of the moustaches & the faces they wear - here's a quick run through - Franco, Charles de Gaulle, Gandhi, Stalin, Hitler, Nasser, Einstein & Saddam Hussein.

Having recently written about Kemal Ataturk, I cannot leave him out of this article, although he did not always sport a moustache, the above image is imposing enough methinks, to have spurred on his rise to power.

From another site doing the Top 10 of Moustaches we find "Otto von Bismarck. I guess you could go with Chaplin or Dali or Zappa here, but while those guys were probably all assholes, the #1 moustache should go to an asshole who made war." - ok so he didn't quite make it to the 20th Century but something that invasive cannot be ignored.

So here we have is an imposing collection of men who made a huge impact on the distribution of power in the modern world.

Further bristling impact has been made via the movie industry. For starters we have the forerunner to Hitler's famous moustache
.

"Charles Spencer Chaplin (can't help but think of Princess Diana with a name like that) is considered one of the most important stars of the early days in Hollywood." Interesting that the birth of the mind-programming industry is ushered in with what will become one of the most feared symbols of the 20th Century.
From Wiki: "This moustache is most famous for having been worn by German dictator Adolph Hitler, although it was already well-recognised due to movie star Charlie Chaplin wearing it as part of his iconic Little Tramp costume. Chaplin did not wear the moustache in daily life. In a 1933 interview, Chaplin said he added the moustache to his costume because it had a comical appearance and was small enough so as not to hide his expression. Chaplin took advantage of the noted similarity between his on-screen appearance and that of Adolf Hitler in his 1940 film The Great Dictator, where he again wore the moustache as part of two new characters that parodied Hitler" - Reality imitates art & then art imitates reality or IS that art & IS there really any difference?

The name Chaplin means chaplain or clergyman. This clergyman wore his 'dog collar' on his upper lip as helped usher the movie industry into it's present idolatrous position. If you doubt his effect on the world check out the website below. There's a couple of mustachioed big names lurking in there too.

http://images.google.co.nz/imgres?imgurl=https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYEuSTaiw4VwEuoTncqFYEZlHbJ5mVuHcZ9RgiPCP5crwDQ7hICPZ8UNjvIdUSlMUED4K4sglQ0HuFeRi8gjzu5ULf7ItVmhNqSbQiK80vj25qKIP92qgbq8k9x0ELB0dleFtMlgsFQhg/s760/charlie11.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.chaplinstamps.blogspot.com/&h=533&w=503&sz=99&hl=en&start=2&um=1&usg=__dWFZRw7zJaetsRdvd678jvbkL1Y=&tbnid=YUa_uLCY0BS_cM:&tbnh=132&tbnw=125&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dcharlie%2Bchaplin%2Bspencer%2Blady%2Bdiana%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN

Other actors with textured upper lips followed in the wake of Chaplin. Lip smacking romantic heroes appeared for the ladies - never underestimate the power of romance as a control mechanism for the female of the species.

As the decades advanced, a more manly romantic hero came to prominence

Interestingly there never seems to be many mustachioed 'hunks' around at any one time - admittedly the majority of the male population does not sport the necessary sub-nasal shrubbery, but still I wonder if perhaps one (at at time) is enough 'to rule them all.'

Turning to art & literature we meet with artistic licence in the field of nasal drapery

Last but not least, what's the first thing that the majority of us do when we 'de-face' someone's portrait. Here's one that was done earlier & has been labelled 'ART'.

So I've been wondering about the power of the moustache.

I'm reminded of a news item in NZ a while ago about a man who bought a Lamborghini & crashed it on the first day - something with that much power demands ownership by someone 'used to' power. Some men do seem to be one with their 'mo' - have a peak at the meaning of the word 'Mojo':
"A magic charm or spell.
2. An amulet, often a small flannel bag containing one or more magic items, worn by adherents of hoodoo or voodoo.
3. Personal magnetism; charm
"

I remember reading somewhere that hair acts as an antenna, like fur on animals. On top of that as all property owners know is the tremendous value of - location, location, location. From wiki -"The philtrum is the vertical groove in the upper lip, formed where the nasomedial and maxillary processes meet during embryonic development."

"The ancient Greeks believed that the philtrum was one of the most erogenous spots on the human body, hence the etymology"- from Gk. philtron "love-charm".

"According to the Jewish Talmud... God sends an angel to each womb and teaches a baby all the wisdom that can be obtained. Just before the unborn baby comes out, the angel touches it between the upper lip and the nose and all that it has taught the baby is forgotten." There are other similar stories to this one - & doesn't it just piss you off!

Anyway the point I'm suggesting is that this area is an important, perhaps magical? part of the body. The faces I've included in this article are famous faces - famous perhaps because they had access to a little more knowledge than the rest of us or were in the keeping of such people.

"Whiskers (on cats & dogs) serve as delicate sense organs of touch and are believed to be as sensitive as our fingertips. They are sensitive to vibrations in air currents. As the air moves, the whiskers vibrate, and dogs use messages in these vibrations to sense the presence, size and shape of nearby objects. Whiskers help protect the eyes. Any touch to the whiskers causes the eyelids to blink."

Can whiskers on a man have some similar abilities & more - look again at the images, what would these men appear like without the 'mo'. Often a great deal af attention is paid to a man who shaves off his moustache, he becomes a curiousity - Tom Selleck just was not the same man without his - some force or energy seemed to be missing.

So strange as it sounds, can a moustasche increase the power of certain men? Does it access some energy within a man or make him more accessible to an outside energy? Or is it some kind of kind of subconscious symbol. Is this why some men have negative reactions when they grow moustaches because thay do not fit the subconscious criteria.

I found myself thinking of Samson & wondering, could the hair that Delilah removed from him have been a moustache?

Fair Phantom (Part 1)

My series of articles on the Sacrifice dated back to a mind expanding five day visit to Sydney last year. On either side of that epiphany was a plane flight & on both those flights I watched a movie. This movie or should I say what happened to the movie's writer & director has been my companion since then. For many months I have held a promise to write about it.

Maybe it's just fanciful but I have had the idea that if we could put truth or awareness back into the time frame from whence it was stolen (or manipulated), perhaps we could reverse (or release) it. The PTB certainly seem addicted to time frames & rituals, so with that in mind, this article has bided it's time, until now.

That flight to Australia took the usual three & half hours. I flicked onto & then off a few bad movies & then spotted Waitress. I remembered seeing the 'shorts' for it & thought it looked quite fun. I was still watching it when the announcement came to switch off for landing, but that was fine as I thought I'd watch it again on the flight home. And so I did. I enjoyed it as a feel good movie, savouring the sensuous tie in with delicious looking pies.

Some time later I thought I'd take my son to see it - while I realise it would be labelled a chick flick by many, it had a nice flavour to it that I thought he would enjoy. It also happened that I invited a friend who was feeling a bit down at the time. It was she who first told me about 'the actress who was murdered'. I was rather stunned & I thought she meant Keri Russell who played the lead role. I've not watched tv in years, but I remembered seeing previews for Felicity, & that there had been a tremendous palaver about her hair.

I went looking on the internet, it was not Keri Russell at all, but the movie's writer & director, Adrienne Shelly who had been killed. She had also played a role as one of three waitresses in the movie. It was the date she died - 1st November, combined with the overkill of her death, some lines from the movie & an amazing synch that kept this event alive & unsettled for me.

There isn't a particularly straight route in this article, just things that have called for attention along the way, nor is it meant to be sensationalist - this story was part of a very important event in my life, so in a sense I'm trying to return a favour.

To start with I have borrowed some info from Ellis Taylor's site because what he says, he says well & with great integrity. The following words relate to a number of different murders, but are they so different after all?

"My insights and research, so far, suggests that both culprits and victims are chosen because aspects of their energy patterns suit a specific purpose. The locations that are involved are selected for the same reason. It is not necessary for any of them to be consciously aware that they are being motivated to fulfill the intended agenda...There is always an occult element to every incident, every experience, because all things are manifested thoughts and are therefore devised in secret.
In many cases major incidents are callously manufactured to camouflage or bury something else that the Darkness or its Dark Ones are trying to hide from the public
."

Adrienne Shelly was killed on November 1st (2006) - the day after Halloween, All Saints Day & the Day of the Dead in numerous cultures. Here Ellis Taylor refers to a woman who went missing on 30th October, 2006 - one day before Halloween (& two days before Adrienne Shelly's death).
"The evening of 30th October is the night before Halloween/ All Souls - 31st October and 7 days prior to the true Samhain 5th November in 2006, which also hosted a full moon. This Samhain moon is known as Dark Moon, Herbistmanoth (Harvest Moon) and Blotmonath (Sacrifice Moon). This is a time dedicated to the Scandinavian goddess Hel."

Most sites I've read refer to Samhain as the 1st November, that was why I paid attention to this date - Ellis puts it at the 5th, either way, countless cultures pay great attention around this time, the Western world simply snuck in Guy Fawkes Day on 5th November to keep this week brewing nicely.

So looking to some additional info on the Celtic festival of Samhain.

"Feast of Death.
The rituals of Samhain involve bonding with the dead. On this night, the Celts believed the doors were opened between the worlds and the paths were travelled by the spirits going back and forth on this night. This world and the Otherworld become equivalent to each other, and no barriers existed between the dead and the living, that is, the “Veil” was at its thinnest.
It is The Veil between the two worlds that Wiccans invoke when they cast the circle to worship or perform rituals; thus, on Samhain night, when the Veil is thinnest, spells are most powerful because we are closest to the spirits."

"Samhain is the most sacred and high holiday of all the festivals of all rituals. Samhain combines a number of elements: the end of the agricultural harvest, the wild harvest, the transition of the fall foliage season into the onset of winter weather and the commemoration of The Day of the Dead. It is a time for remembering our ancestors and our departed loved ones, and a solemn time should be set aside for contemplating the mystery of Life and Death as taught by the ancient ways."

"It is generally celebrated on October 31st, but some traditions prefer November 1st. It is one of the two "spirit-nights" each year, the other being Beltane. It is a magical interval when the mundane laws of time and space are temporarily suspended, and the Thin Veil between the worlds is lifted. Communicating with ancestors and departed loved ones is easy at this time."

"Symbolism of Samhain:Third Harvest, the Dark Mysteries, Rebirth through Death."

This time of year is honoured by numerous cultures around the world, each linking into a belief in some form, that the spirits of the dead or the world they inhabit, are closer than at any other time of the year.

Día de los muertos or the Day of the Dead is a very important holiday in Mexico, it can be traced back to "to the indigenous peoples such as the Olmec, Zapotec, Mixtec, Mexican, Aztec, Maya, P'urhépecha, and Totonac. Rituals celebrating the deaths of ancestors have been observed by these civilizations perhaps for as long as 2500–3000 years....Similar observances occur elsewhere in Europe and in the Philippines, and similarly themed celebrations appear in many Asian and African cultures." - From wiki

Now lets take a brief look at Ecuador

"Día de los Difuntos, or Day of the Dead, is without a doubt one of the most important and highly respected days in the Ecuadorian highlands, taking place on November 2nd."

"The most important dates in the indigenous' calendar are the 1st and 2nd of November. All Saints' Day (Todos los Santos) and Day of the Dead (Dia de los Difuntos, o muertos). The ancient belief is that the soul visits its relatives within these days and should have plenty of food to be fed and continue further on its journey to the after life."

"The Ecuadorian Day of the Ancestors isn’t quite like the Mexican Day of the Dead, nor is it like American Halloween. El día de los difuntos is a time to celebrate one’s dead ancestors. In the small country villages, families dress in their finest clothes and carry a meal to the cemetery, where they dine on top of the grave of their ancestors. One plate is always left for the dead ancestor."

Now we return to Adrienne Shelly.

I don't like this bit & in fact I have never been able to reconcile myself with it. The following is the gist of news reports. She was found hanging by a sheet from a shower rail in the apartment she used as an office at 15 Abingdon Square, in Manhattan on the evening of 1st November, 2006. At first it was reported as a suicide, but her husband & family & indeed common sense said this was not so - she had been waiting to hear if her movie Waitress had been accepted into the Sundance Film Festival. A reebok shoe print in the bathtub or on the toilet (versions vary) led to the arrest of Diego Pillco, a 19 year old illegal immigrant from Ecuador who had been working in the building. Again versions vary, but it seems he first denied murder, but then later confessed. Stories also vary as to the 'reason', at first it was that they argued over noise & then later that she found him stealing money from her wallet. There are also various versions of what happened next, with a general acceptance that he hit her & presuming he'd killed her, he thought of making her death look like a suicide to cover his tracks.

The overkill in this event disturbs me & also how 'dramatic' it feels. Acceptance of the idea that an illegal immigrant would stoop to murder to avoid detection seems plausible. However I wondered why someone in such a knife-edge position would risk any kind of exposure in the first place.

"Neighbors at Mr. Pillco’s apartment building said he was hard-working and respectful. He lived in a basement apartment with his cousin and held a variety of odd jobs, they said.“He sent money home to his mother and father,” said Frank Lingo, a neighbor. “He minded his business. He never bothered me or anyone else near here. He seemed like a good kid. I’ve never seen him hang out.”Chris Pannhorse, another neighbor, said: “He was always respectful to me and my wife. He’s a good kid. Because that is what he is to me, just a kid.”

"Pillco's cousin told The Post that the accused killer was "quiet and peaceful. He didn't have a temper," and was working to pay off his smuggling debt, and to support his parents and five siblings back in Ecuador."

Pillco comes from Ecuador where, "the most important dates in the indigenous' calendar are the 1st and 2nd of November. All Saints' Day (Todos los Santos) and Day of the Dead (Dia de los Difuntos, o muertos). So November 1st is the Roman Catholic feast day, All Saints Day - a part of of Pillco's tiny room included "a simple shrine to a Catholic patron saint, adorned with flowers and prayer cards." The modern Oracle better known as the 'media,' incubated guilt in the 'discerning' public with the next few lines "In the corner near the bedroom door was a cheap TV. On a nearby shelf were a collection of Spanish horror and smutty films featuring women dressed as schoolgirls posing on the cover" ... hmmm, no mention of the cheap dvd or video machine with which to watch them, or am I being picky? It's amazing how a little pornography, casually dropped into 'objective' reports basically guarantees public acceptance of guilt - I couldn't help remembering the stories of 'Korans left in bars' prior to Sept 11.

Am I saying he didn't do it - I have no idea, I wasn't there. I just noted interesting points. Another significant date in this scenario was Pillco's entry into America on the auspicious date July 7 (7/7). A little further along, we have the date of 14th February (Valentines Day), this year as the date in which he pleaded guilty.

"During his testimony in a New York courthouse on Thursday (14Feb08), Pillco then confessed to hanging the 40-year-old to make her death look like a suicide." I have found his choice of words strange - description followed by an extra admission.

"I didn't mean to kill her. But I did kill her."

I saw a sheet and I decided to choke her and that's what happened."

Part of the reason I find this murder so hard to accept is the dramatic feel of it. It could so easily be the plot of any one of the multitude of tv crime shows that drop bodies into peoples living rooms at a dizzying rate. I'm not sure how many panic stricken people would have the wits to create a suicide scene using a sheet as a makeshift rope & if they did because they'd seen it on tv, surely they know to wipe away prints. Perhaps he did, because I've never heard of any other evidence being found.

I was obviously not the only person to see the dramatics of this event. The crime show Law & Order, jumped on it & a few short months later, exhibited their own rendition entitled 'The Melting Pot' - "Well, it was bound to happen sometime, but frankly we're a little shocked how fast Dick Wolf is getting going on the Adrienne Shelley rip-off episode"

and the storyline...

"JULIO CONTRERAS] male, 19-24, Hispanic, illegal immigrant. Speaks English w/accent. He has been working as a day laborer/construction worker in this country for almost two years. He sends money back home to his family in So. America - he is the sole breadwinner for his mother and siblings.

He is suspected of murdering Erin Garrett after they argued about his construction crew turning off the electricity in her building. He admits to the argument and pushing her. She fell, hit her head, and was knocked unconscious. Julio swears he did not hang her. He is brought to trial".
Notice the victims name Erin is a twist of the four middle letters of Adrienne's name. Erin means Ireland - the Celtic home of Samhain.

Adrienne began her career as "an Indie film actress who gained fame as filmmaker Hal Hartley's early muse." She came to prominence in two of his early movies, The Unbelievable truth (1989) and Trust (1990). She, herself guest starred in an early episode of Law and Order, as well as appearing in Homicide: Life on the Street & 'Oz'. She turned to "writing and directing, making her directorial debut with "Sudden Manhattan" in 1996."

I realised today that there was no way I could complete this article & publish it for November 1st, it has been steadily growing in a strange variety of directions, so I have decided to divide it into two parts, having only just skimmed the surface. My intention was to somehow help return what I see as stolen energy - I have no idea if this is possible, it was simply my intent. Along with this, I now feel the desire to use & share the energy of this time as best I can. I found some interesting ideas on Samhain that I had not contemplated - ideas that belong to us, the living & so I pass them on.

"Samhain is a time of introspection, of emptying the false from the mind, heart, and soul. It is a time to heal the source of our deepest wounds....and those we have inflected on others around us.....before time fails us. It is a time when we can learn to see clearly."

"Like New Years' celebration all over the world, Samhain festivities fall into two sequential phases: one that signifies the return to Chaos, and involves the disposal of old goods, potlatches, parties, suspension of taboos, return of the dead, and the mixing of the two Worlds, in Past and Future; and a second whose theme is the rebirth of Order and Cosmos, of creating anew, of preparations, and of the rites of Samhain Morning."

"Health or disease came from the ancestors in the Celtic Cosmos; to live well one had to be on good terms with the dead and with one's past. The past becomes present again on Samhain, between the years. All oblations and funeral rites due the ancestors must have been offered, and all debts of this World paid, if the traveler is to step lightly between the Worlds. If all was not in perfect order, the quester might become trapped or the ancestors could send disease and misfortune when the passage opened. Or the wronged dead could pass into this World, and walk in the time between the years, seeking revenge."

For the first time ever, I have contemplated this day in line with what I have learned from the festivals of the Day of the Dead. I have a candle burning amid photos of family members who have died. My cupboards are bare, as I 've been rather busy researching, so the food I have offered consists of dry bread & cooking chocolate - so far no complaints thank goodness.

I leave you with my own personal offering on this Day of the Dead. The time in this world is too precious now to withold our stories when they may offer healing.

Many years ago now my first child was stillborn. It was completely unexpected & I was shocked & angry for a long time. Somewhere along the way I felt a desire to create a memory of him & so decided to put an entry into the Book of Rememberance at the crematorium where his ashes were scattered. I struggled for some time with ideas & words of rememberance or not forgetting. When the words came, they came quickly & simply.
Beside his name is written "Go with Love, Little One."

The day after I arranged this, I experienced a feeling of intense joy that lasted for hours, even in the midst of a very tiresome activity. I have always associated the two events.

"Go with Love, Adrienne Shelly & all we have loved who have left this world."

A little something for the weak-end (sorry it's a bit late)

I generally enjoy reading people who are willing to go out on a limb & present information that would have most experts salivating & squabbling over who gets to cast the first stone.

I'm one quarter of the way through just such a book now, perhaps by the time I'm half way through I'll put it down, I don't know, but it has provided me with an idea I had not thought about before & find thoroughly refreshing.

I'm thinking you might agree that there is a tremendous amount of energy being expended on 'end of the world' scenarios. We have been primed through school, history, media & movies to accept the destructive tendencies of our race. We have been taught (taut = emotionally or mentally strained) that our blood thirsty species has little or no respect for life & must be policed to keep us from running amok. History tells us our predecessors tried to obliterate all & sundry, not once, but twice, through world wars. Our daily buffet from the media reads like a mafia menu - a double helping of blood but easy on the onions.

The trailers for the lead up to the 'Apocalypse' include a dazzling array of expert knowledge of climactic change, 100% natural (cough) disasters, media hype plus the most scary thing of all - leaders with as much common sense as a toilet brush (& far less useful). There is enough doom & gloom to whet the appetite of any number (max 144,000) of Apocalypse spotters.

I'm not sure what the RDA of doom is, but I think we're overdoing it. In my own city of Auckland, we've gone from the odd mention of what to do in an emergency to media statements from the pulpit, err sorry local paper of 'It's not if, but when...' - wtf, where did that come from - nothing has happened in Auckland, if I follow the same logic I should now rush out & buy a lottery ticket because I've never won anything & "It's not if, but when" - it's true I read it in the papers.

Sorry got side-tracked. My book is called Catastraphobia by Barbara Hand Clow. She suggests that the devastation that we so fear or have resigned ourselves to, is a fait accompli - it has already happened. It took place around 11,500 years ago when the Cataclysm that almost destroyed this world & which virtually every culture in the world has recorded, occurred.

Clow suggests that our fascination with destruction comes from the unhealed trauma that resides in the collective memory of the human race & that, as with all trauma, we need to remember it so that we can heal, otherwise we keep re-creating it or allowing repeat performances.

Personally I am touched by these ideas, perhaps you had heard of them, I had not.

The devastation would have been indescribable - what words have ever equalled an experience - good or bad - we just use them to create movies in our head. Watching a disaster movie while scoffing popcorn in a movie theatre is not real - sorry I hope I haven't spoiled that for anyone, but movies are actually made up & the actors go home in the evening to watch other disaster movies.

Families, villages, towns, the familiar landscape would have been obliterated - our world almost destroyed. Were we there I wonder?

Following on with his idea I have wondered if the traumas of our present lives would be compounded a thousandfold by the buried memory of such an incident - a fear of abandonment in this life could be resonating with the unbearable loss of everyone, everything in that previous time. A fear of fire or water which may outwardly appear to stem from this life, could have it's roots in the memories of something infinitely more terrible. Religion would gain an easy foothold when something so awful happens that we believe we are being punished & need protection - isn't that what religion is about? I thought about the Aztecs too & their hideous sacrifices designed to maintain the universe - surely you need some bloody terrifying reason to make you consider butchering fellow human beings by the thousand.

I have been allowing these ideas to wander around inside me to see what comes up. As a result I wondered what effect this cataclysm would have had on the Earth herself - surely she too would have suffered the same trauma as her peoples. I wonder if somehow she has blocked out her memory too & perhaps we need to remember in order to heal her - does she allow so much disrespect through pollution & overuse of her body because she carries this deep trauma & has been unable to rouse herself & heal. Is this why the majority of the population of the world are so easy to dumb down - they are simply following that same route - the one that leads to escape from pain?

There is a further suggestion in the book that prior to this time Earth's axis was straight & the world experienced a 'golden age' - the Garden of Eden. The devastation that not only wiped out much of the world's population, also changed the world forever, the topography was drastically altered, distinct seasons were created, a whole new way of living was called for... "And there's so many myths with such similar themes. Catastrophic devastation, flood & fire, destruction of mankind and cold & dark."

.........Was the world once a very different place?............

Catastrophobia also suggests that time was created as a result of this new world - there were now identifiable seasons & the stars had changed & moved in the heavens & humanity developed a deep fascination for them.
I guess it was the book Out of Antarctica by Robert Argod that somehow melded with this one & created such an interest for me (there's a link at the bottom to a previous post that resulted from that book). Argod had studied mythology from around the world & had a passion to understand this enormous catastrophe - indeed it seems there is much that could be called 'proof' for those who wish to go a-hunting.

Mostly I'm happy to turn this idea over & over. I find myself resting within this meaning-filled theory.

Playing with some wild ideas, I thought of trauma based mind control - the entire human race would have been programmable & there were those kindly beings who turned up & taught the basic skills required in this 'new world' - can we date the start of the NWO to this cataclysm, with a continual build up to this present time where we face the ultimate choice - to heal or to escape from remembering?

Anyway these have just been some thoughts sparked off by an idea that I think offers hope & resolution & is such a welcome change from a diet of over-processed doom.

I wish you all whatever your heart's desire to create your personal paradise.
